Pipeline Engineer

Location: Houston TX

 

This Houston employer is seeking an experienced Pipeline Engineer. This position will appeal to those who are customer focused and have the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. This position will provide engineering and technical support to assist with design, construction, installation, startup, operation, and maintenance of Company hazardous liquid crude oil, Frac Sand Facilities that may consist of crude oil gathering and transmission pipelines, tank terminals, ACT and LACT measurement equipment, internal and external corrosion control, SCADA, DCS supervisory and control systems, or other equipment. This position will also assist to help ensure that all systems are designed and operated in a safe, reliable and efficient manger.

 

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities by Competency

Functional Expertise:

  • Must be familiar with industry best management practices, industry recommended standards, and acceptable industry engineering and design standards. Must comply with Company policies and procedures as well as applicable State and Federal regulations.

  • Assist with AFE and or MOC development. Provide technical review of all projects to ensure compliance with engineering standards, company policies and procedures, and to ensure appropriate budgets

  • Work with Operations, Project Management, and third Party engineering firms to ensure timely coordination and completion of new construction projects and or upgrades to existing facilities.

  • Ensure that project records are properly assembled, documented and filed per regulatory requirements.

  • Responds appropriately to abnormal operating conditions in order to maintain a safe and reliable operating environment.

  • Responds appropriately to Emergency Response situation and performs first responder duties in accordance with the Emergency Response Plant.

  • Assist in the assessment and development of technicians.

 

Business Acumen:

Must be competent with coordinating major equipment or facility repairs and or inspections by third parties as qualified and assigned. Must focus on maintaining a high level of system safely, reliability, efficiency and profitability at all Company facilities. Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings including electrical and control schematics, P I& ID’s and piping drawings. Must understand and support corporate and department objectives and goals. Assist with development of Company Design, Engineering and Construction standards, working with outside resources. Provide technical support to assist with detection and resolution of mechanical and technical problems that may impact facility safety, reliability, and efficiency. Identify and report operational issues that may impact compliance with regulations or company policies and procedures. Must have the ability to specify equipment and material and develop cost estimates for various projects Possess good to advanced computer skills.

Participates in Company sponsored technical training programs, cross-training assignments, and orientation of new hires to improve knowledge and skills of self and others.

Qualifications

BA/BS in Engineering (Civil, Industrial or Mechanical)

Valid state driver’s license

Preferred

  • Engineering degree with prior experience with design, construction, operations and maintenance of hazardous liquid pipeline, storage (tankage) and measurement facilities.

Related Work Experience:

  • Must be knowledgeable of safe handling practices for high pressure hazardous liquids systems during construction, operations, and maintenance activities

Preferred

  • 3-5 years of engineering experience in project management, project engineering or construction management of hazardous liquid facilities.

  • Working experience with but not limited to, low and high pressure hazardous liquid pumps, electronic equipment, high pressure hazardous liquid measurement and transportation, PLCs, and SCADA/NMI systems, and network/ communications systems.

Specific Skills and Knowledge:

Required:

  • Proficient understanding and use of the English language

  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical blueprints, P & IDs, Cause and Effect and piping drawings.

  • Engineering and mathematical proficiency

  • Ability to prepare written and electron reports in a clear and concise manger.

  • Ability to interact effectively with others.

  • Ability to multi-task and meet aggressive deadlines.

  • Strongly motivated with good communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.

  • Good to advanced skills with Microsoft applications (Office, Project), geographical information systems (GIS) drafting and modeling applications, database applications, and computerized maintenance management systems.

 

Travel requirement may range from Occasional to Frequent, Trips may require air travel an or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights
